Thoughts on Change

We are coming to the end of September. Whew! Has this been quite the year or has it just been me?!

This year, Holy Spirit gave me my word for this year “TRUST.” I generally get a word – literally – for the year. It’s been a single word for several years now. I cannot express to you how Favorite Husband (FH) and I have had to walk this out. Trust. I’ve heard a plethora of messages on faith. But you cannot have faith without trust. You can’t genuinely love without trust. Change involves so much trust! Trust is enormous! But that subject is another blog for another day.

FH has talked about moving every Spring. The conversation usually comes with the last Spring snowstorm in Colorado. “Pook – let’s move somewhere warmer.” The only difference was that this year, we actually did! God just did it and here we are….in a new home – in a new state – in awe of it all. Change. It comes – ready or not.

Here are some thoughts I’ve had about change.

1. If you want life to change – pray, plan and execute.
2. Change can be tough. Seriously. There were moments when we were more tired than we’d been in a long time and everything hurt. Everything! I remember looking at FH thinking “The only reason I’m here is because I’m stubborn and I know that this is all temporary pain.”
3. Change takes faith, trust and courage. There’s that word – courage. Courage calls us to take aim and shoot for what only Holy Spirit can see.
4. When questioning if you should pack it or toss it – just toss it. Seriously. You’ve got more crap than you think.

Colorado held no open doors for us at all. I had to release everything that I felt should have developed in this season. Whatever the secret handshake was – I never got it right. It was time to put all of that behind me – behind us. It was time to set sail in spite of the occasional bout of sea sickness, shall we say.

FH and I are excited for all the possibilities that Arkansas holds for us because we continue to choose to trust, have faith in the God we serve and be courageous. It hasn’t been easy, but the hope we both feel is worth all the change we continue to walk out.

Change.
