It’s Really That Simple…
Those of us that were raised in church really can have an “I’ve seen it all” attitude. Primarily because we have been witness to a great deal. I don’t often listen to messages that really stay with me. Often times I think it’s a great message – I have points that stay with me for a few days and then move on. I’m sure you’re the same.
But this one struck a chord in me – one that I’ve not heard in a very long time.
I’ve been around the block – the church block that is – for most of my life. Let me tell you, each one think that they are “it!” No seriously – they do. They only drink from their river and every other brook is considered not potable. If you’re not prosperous and walking in health – you’re deceived. If you’re not doing spiritual warfare or apostolic – you’re deceived. If you‘re not….and the list goes on and on.
This message was different. It was just pure love of Jesus flowing from a fountain of Jesus wrapped up in a thick rich coating of Jesus. I couldn’t look away.
I remembered that the power of the message of Christianity isn’t in any of those places – it’s Jesus. So simple, so deep and yet so infinitely consuming.
“We still love Jesus!” I’ve heard that many times – while their lives reflect something entirely different. Here’s my response, you’re life – the way you conduct every day, every decision and every word that comes out of your mouth is a reflection of what you love. That’s why we have to watch our language. That’s why we have to challenge our motives. That’s why we can’t simply “still love Jesus.” Because to love Him, means every area of our life that doesn’t look like Him – has to change.
My heart is stirred back to the place of simply Jesus.
I think I’ll go read through the Gospels again.
